CEFR
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) was published by the Council of Europe in 2001 as a reference document describing the knowledge and skills language learners must develop to communicate effectively in a foreign language. It provides a common basis for the development of language curricula and textbooks and for the interpretation of language test scores.
Learn more1. What is the CEFR?
The CEFR describes language activities and competences at six main levels: A1 (the lowest) through A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2 (the highest). The levels include can-do statements, which describe in a positive way what language learners can do when they use a language, rather than what they cannot do.
The CEFR proficiency scales provide a convenient structure for thinking about and communicating a progression of language proficiency and for considering where people stand in relation to that progression. Therefore, mapping language test scores onto the CEFR levels is useful for assigning practical meaning to those scores. ETS has conducted several studies to facilitate the interpretation of the scores of the language tests it develops in relation to the CEFR levels.

4. TOEFL ITP Level 1 and Level 2 test scores
To help you interpret TOEFL ITP Level 1 and Level 2 test scores, ETS has conducted several studies, including a score mapping study to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), a score descriptor study and a reliability study.
CEFR mapping studyResults of the CEFR mapping provide the minimum TOEFL ITP section scores for four of the levels defined in the CEFR (A2, B1, B2 and C1).

5. Mapping the TOEIC® Tests on the Common European Framework of Reference
The TOEIC® test is specifically designed to measure English language proficiency with a high degree of accuracy and precision in order to offer its test-takers a comprehensive assessment of their linguistic capabilities. Based on ETS research, the TOEIC® test is meticulously constructed to provide the most optimal measure of English proficiency, ranging from the A2 level up to the B2 level, extending at the low end to A1 and at the high end to C1. This choice is informed by the fact that globally, for most professions, the education and training the proficiency required, is in this range.

GRE
Various organizations use GRE scores in considering candidates for graduate fellowships. However, test scores shouldn’t be directed to a fellowship sponsor unless you’ve filed an application with that sponsor or have been requested by the sponsor to send scores. If you’re applying for a fellowship that doesn’t appear in the list but is offered by a specific university, contact the university to determine the appropriate code to use.
The * that follows an institution’s name indicates that the institution doesn’t offer graduate programs. An institution that doesn’t offer graduate programs should only be entered in the undergraduate institution section of the registration form; it should not be entered as a score report recipient.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. How can I book a test?
All test registrations shall be submitted through our website by clicking "Book Now". Your registration will then be finalized and confirmed by email once the online payment is validated
2. How can I find a test session nearby?
By clicking on the link "https://toeflibt.ets.org/test-selection/test-location" button, you will access all the test session dates available nearby or in the selected city.
3. How long is my score valid for?
Because English-language skills may improve or decline over time, ETS Global and Representatives will re-issue and confirm score results for 2 years after taking the test.
4. Which identification documents shall I bring on the test day?
On the test day, you must have an acceptable and valid ID (not expired) with a signature and a recent photograph to be admitted to a test center. We remind you that in France, the identity card is valid for an additional 5 years, if it was issued to an adult (+18 years old) between 2006 and 2013. You can find more information about this here. If this is your case and it corresponds to the criteria mentioned above, you can be admitted to the test center. Acceptable primary identification documents: National identification or passport for E.U test-takers taking the test in the E.U.; Passport for non-Europeans test-takers (important: resident permits are not authorised); Driver’s license or military identification for test-takers who are taking the test in their country of citizenship (you could, for example, use your French driver’s license to take the test in France). For more information, do not hesitate to check the Examinee Handbook related to the test you wish to take.
5. How to register for the TOEFL ITP tests?
All test registrations shall be submitted through our website by clicking on the link "Register to a test". Your registration will then be finalized and confirmed by email once the online payment is validated.
6. Are ETS tests scores mapped to the CEFR?
ETS regularly carries out correlation studies between its tests and the CEFR (the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) to ensure that reliable and precise correlations can be made over time. The CEFR defines skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking in any language. The Framework is broken down into six levels, falling into three main groups: A1 – A2 (Basic User) B1 – B2 (Independent User) C1 – C2 (Proficient User) All the tests developed by ETS Global are mapped to the CEFR level and thus can be broken down such as follows: Level A1 to B1: TOEIC Bridge® and TOEFL Primary® tests Level A1 to C1: TOEIC® Listening and Reading and TOEIC® Speaking and Writing tests Level A2 to B2: TOEFL Junior® Standard test Level A2 to C1: TOEIC TFI™ and TOEFL ITP® tests Level B1 to C1: TOEFL IBT® test
7. What does it measure?
It assesses the ability of non-native speakers to use and understand English as it is read, heard, spoken, and written in a university classroom.
8. How long is the test?
The test takes approximately 2 hours.
9. What are "MyBest" scores?
These represent the sum of your highest section scores from all valid test dates.
10. When can I see my scores?
Unofficial Reading and Listening scores are available immediately; official scores are typically available in your ETS account 4–8 days after testing.
